Daedalus, the most skillful craftsman Athens has known, grows jealous of his young nephew Perdix and sends him falling from a temple cliff, where Athena takes pity on the boy. Exiled to Crete, Daedalus is asked by King Minos to rid the land of a terrible monster with a bull's head.

Als Athen noch nur eine kleine Stadt war, lebte innerhalb seiner Mauern ein Mann namens Daedalus, der der geschickteste Arbeiter in Holz, Stein und Metall war, den man je gekannt hatte.

While Athens was still only a small city there lived within its walls a man named Daedalus who was the most skillful worker in wood and stone and metal that had ever been known.

It was he who taught the people how to build better houses and how to hang their doors on hinges and how to support the roofs with pillars and posts.
